Julien Montagne

Fullstack Product Engineer

I'm Julien, a product-minded fullstack engineer of seven years, based in Bangkok after a year and a half in Dubai. I do web and mobile, and what I like is taking a product from idea to shipped.

My agents and I have a favorite stack: Next, React Native and Laravel. AI saves me a huge amount of time every day, and I'm always there to steer it and to spot when it gets it wrong.

Where I've worked

Dubai, then remote from Bangkok

2024 - present

I've worked across eight SaaS products at Icarus, product owner on one of them. Some are still looking for their market, others have several million users, and each runs its own stack. On the one I look after, I've run 36 A/B tests in eleven months across 275,000 users, and 81% of them shipped: 20% fewer cancellations, and 14 to 24% more conversion across three different flows. I use AI to write code every day, and I build it into the products themselves, where I cut the cost of the models by a factor of five.

2023 - 2024

This is not a gap.

A three-month freelance engagement on a social network for creative professions, then time to close a gap: backend work, and what you can actually get out of AI products.

San Francisco (Remote)

2022 - 2023

A year of frontend work at Luvi (formerly Club), a social network for creators. I worked on the payments and subscription side, from the Stripe checkout to tips and bundles, along with the paid content. Short cycles, continuous integration, near-daily releases. I ran the A/B tests and discussed the results with the product team. That's where I started folding AI into the way I work.

France (Remote)

2021 - 2022

I co-founded Sheeriz and coded it from scratch: an app to help women make new friends, with real-time chat, voice messages, media sharing and events. We reached 180,000 registered users, hit #1 in Lifestyle on the App Store within 48 hours, and #22 overall.

Lille (On-site)

2022

I brought Moha in-house, a health and wellness app an agency had been building until then. Refactoring, a new design system, a rewards system, a dashboard.

San Giljan, Malta (On-site)

2020 - 2021

I built Storylation from scratch, a social network in Expo: feed, groups, private messaging, notifications, and text, voice and video posts. Redux and Redux-Saga to keep the async state under control, Pusher for real time.

Lille (On-site, then freelance)

2018 - 2019

Usekey gave me my first job. In Angular, I built the team's dashboards, the web platform where customers assembled their own mobile app from configurable blocks, and the live screens for events. A six-month internship, then they brought me back as a freelancer to build Scankey in React, an inventory and service tracking app for heating engineers.

My projects

2026

Stories for children aged 6 to 10, to listen to or to read, with a quiz at the end of each one, that's Petit Agneau. I built the AI pipeline that writes the stories, wired up the subscription, and handled the compliance a platform for children demands.

2026

A journal that files itself, that's the idea behind Aloud. You write your entry, the app detects the emotion, spots the people and subjects you mention, and sorts them into folders. It's the People tab of the iPhone photo gallery, applied to what you write: six months later, everything you've said about someone fits on one screen.

2026

A book club needs a shared reading calendar, group discussions and progress tracking. That's what Shelfmate does, with threads split by chapter so nobody runs into spoilers.

2026

I couldn't find hand-drawn icons I liked, so I wrote Sketchy Icons, a generator that takes Lucide's geometry and bends every line, with a seed unique to each icon, for a consistent hand-drawn look across the whole library. Over 1500 icons, with packages for React, React Native, Vue, Svelte and Angular, down to raw SVG for everything else. Used on this site!

Before that

2017 - 2020

I learned to code at Epitech, in Lille. Three years of C and C++ writing video games, a shell and low-level projects across a broad range of topics, before specializing in web and mobile. Bachelor in Information Technology.
